Since its inception, NBC’s “New Amsterdam” medical series has succeeded in delivering engaging and distinct relationship sagas for viewers. From the heartwarming friendliness of Iggy and Martin to the tearful of Bloom and Leyla, the series has always stolen the hearts of fans through touching romances. The first half of the show’s fourth season depicts Lyn’s complex relationship with Reynolds, which becomes complicated with the premiere’s pregnancy.
When ambiguity regarding the identity of Lyn’s baby’s father began to grip viewers, the fourth season’s narrative takes a sharp departure from Lyn and Reynolds’ storyline, coupled with the former’s absence in three consecutive episodes. As fans fret over the fate of Frances Turner’s Dr. Lyn Malvo, here’s everything you need to know about it! FRONT SPOILERS.
What happened to Lyn Malvo?
Lyn and Reynolds’ relationship takes an unexpected turn when Lyn’s husband, Dr. Claude Baptiste, agrees to be in a polyamorous relationship to continue his life with Lyn. However, the complications in their lives only increase when Lyn becomes pregnant. The two begin to argue over the identity of the baby, only to realize that the identity is no more important than their love for Lyn. They decide to take care of Lyn and “their baby” first rather than do a paternity test. When Lyn’s health fails, Reynolds and Baptiste begin caring for her.
Over the course of a day, Reynolds comes across photographs of Lyn and Baptiste, taken during their first years of married life. He is amazed at how happy they were as a family and how he can never replace Baptiste’s position in Lyn’s life. Reynolds also realizes that he will always remain a stranger in their home even though he is one of three in the polyamorous relationship. The realization leads him to give Lyn flowers and a platter of pierogi in Baptiste’s name to help the husband mend his once-beautiful marriage to Lyn.
Reynolds’ action points to the possibility that he may walk away from Lyn and Baptiste’s relationship to give them a chance to regain their lost happiness. Given Lyn’s absence from the show for three consecutive episodes, fans can’t be blamed for worrying about the character’s possible departure from Reynolds’ storyline and the show. So, has Frances Turner already left the medical drama? Let’s find out!
Has Frances Turner left New Amsterdam?
As Reynolds ponders his future with Lyn and Baptiste, his split from Lyn is indeed a possibility. Such a development could prove to be a dead end for Frances Turner’s Lyn, justifying a possible exit from the actress. Like Margot Bingham’s Evie Garrison, Reynolds’ ex-partner, Lyn could also be written off during her potential split from Reynolds. However, neither NBC nor Turner have released any statements or announcements regarding Lyn’s supposed departure, indicating that we haven’t seen the final character.
Lyn’s absence may be due to the narrative’s focus on Max’s efforts to force Veronica to resign from New Amsterdam. After investing a significant portion of the fourth season in portraying Lyn’s relationship with Reynolds and Baptiste and the eventual pregnancy, it’s unlikely the character met her end on the show in an abrupt way. Since Lyn’s pregnancy and the complications the baby will potentially create in Reynolds’ life have plenty of room to continue, we can expect to see Lyn in future episodes of the fourth season.
We can also expect Reynolds to confront his misgivings and doubts about his life with Lyn. If he is sure of his life with her, we may see him challenged by his Orthodox mother. Lyn and Reynolds may encounter enough challenges on their path as they are expected to enter a crucial phase in their lives. Given these possibilities, we think Frances Turner is likely to continue to feature in “New Amsterdam.”
