Sally’s long wait to confront Leatherface ends when she confronts him with a shotgun. However, her fate takes a wild turn upon her long-awaited meeting with him. If you’re curious about the outcome of Sally’s confrontation with Leatherface, we’ve got you covered! FRONT SPOILERS.
Does Sally die?
Sally probably dies. When Sally learns that unusual events are happening in Harlow, she leaves her home to find out what’s going on in the ghost town. She comes across the police and Virginia’s corpses. When she realizes that the skin on Virginia’s face has peeled off, she realizes that Leatherface is back. She travels to Harlow and is greeted by Lila and Melody, who are trying to escape the mass murderer. Rather than help the two women, Sally puts their safety at risk to get revenge on Leatherface. She confronts him with a shotgun and asks if he remembers her.
Even though Sally holds Leatherface at gunpoint to kill him, trauma and memories from her past weaken her spirit. She remains stuck and watches him walk away from her. Sally only realizes the gravity of the situation when she sees Leatherface attacking Lila and Melody and tries to take him down. However, the murderer shrewdly relishes his second chance to kill Sally. He stabs Sally with his chainsaw and keeps her in the air with his favorite weapon running. After bathing in her blood, Leatherface throws her in a pile of trash and leaves her there to die.
On the verge of death, Sally tries one last time to kill him with her gun, but she fails to send him to hell. Realizing there is nothing more she can do to kill Leatherface, she asks Lila to take the gun and kill him. She convinces Lila that she cannot escape Leatherface or the trauma he inflicted on her if she survives without killing him. Sally stands as the best example to make Lila realize that the only way to overcome Leatherface and the trauma she’s going to go through is to kill him.
Sally asks Lila not to live a life steeped in survivor’s guilt and disappointment. She hands her gun to Lila before accepting death in front of her. Although Sally’s death is not explicitly shown, the severity of her injury and the unlikelihood of anyone saving her makes it apparent that she dies. After years of waiting, Sally does her best to see the end of Leatherface. However, the strength and monstrosity of the human monster defeats her and leaves her to die. Although she fails to kill him, she does her best to lead Lila down another path, only for Lila to become “the next Sally Hardesty”.
