What happened to Drew?
When Sophie and Drew start dating, the vice principal surprises her with his ability to understand and accept her. Drew begins to find happiness in the small things associated with Sophie rather than expecting grand gestures. Her honesty and communication help Sophie deal with her own insecurities to propel their relationship forward. After several men, Sophie begins to believe Drew has the potential to be the one. They overcome the differences between them for the sake of their relationship. However, their attractive unit falls apart in the eighth episode of the series.
When Drew offers Jesse a job as a full-time music teacher at his school, Sophie questions Drew’s intentions. The vice principal replies that Jesse should have a stable job rather than clinging to his passion. Stunned, Sophie asks him if he feels the same about her being a photographer. Drew, always honest, opens his mind and expresses that Sophie also needs a stable job for the life to come and that photography, as a passion, cannot replace this need. Sophie realizes that Drew doesn’t understand her passion and identity, causing her to walk away from the event. Sophie meets Jesse and she remembers how he always managed to see her insecurities and her passion in a positive light.
Upon realizing that Jesse is more compatible than Drew, she kisses him. Sophie’s realization and intimate moment with Jesse indicate that her relationship with Drew is coming to a possible stalemate. As Sophie drifts away from Drew, fans of the show must be curious if the most likely end to their relationship is a gateway for Josh Peck to leave the show. Let’s find out!
Josh Peck is leaving How I met your father?
When Drew approaches Jesse about potentially dating Sophie, she initially fires him thinking he can’t be any different from the many men she’s dated. His repeated failure to find a suitable partner tries to weather another disappointment. Still, she gives Drew a chance and he manages to impress her. But Drew’s comments about Sophie’s passion and career and Jesse’s ability to read Sophie and help her grow as a person no longer sound good to Drew. By proving Sophie’s doubts to be correct, Drew stifles the bud of his relationship with her, paving the way for Josh Peck to leave the show.
However, Hulu or Peck have not released an official statement regarding Drew’s supposed departure. Even though Sophie and Drew officially part ways, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the character. Drew may still exist in the narrative, trying to work through the mistake he made. His optimism may teach him that he still has a chance with Sophie if he changes his outlook on his passion and his career. If he succeeds before Sophie and Jesse cement their potential relationship, Drew could still find a way back to Sophie. The sense of belonging he feels with Sophie, regardless of their differences, can motivate him to embrace a better version of himself for Sophie’s sake.
Given that “How I Met Your Father” is already renewed for a second season, the show’s writers may not be in a rush to let go of a character with significant potential to explore. If so, it’s likely that Josh Peck will continue to appear on the show.
