Dutch filmmaker Roel Reiné has directed a supernatural action thriller, “The Fistful of Vengeance”. The film is the spin-off of the popular Netflix show “Wu Assassins”, which did not continue after just one season in 2019. Picking up from the end of the first season, the film is about the Wu Assassin team, who reunites against the backdrop of a Bangkok night city to avenge the death of one of their own.
Lawrence Kao, who is reprising the role of Tommy Wah, assured that the film will also work as a standalone project while having ties to the previous series. Most of the story takes place in urban areas, where the city of Bangkok provides an excellent backdrop for the dynamic action sequences. “Fistful of Vengeance” was filmed in and around Thailand and the United States, particularly in Bangkok. Filming began in early 2021 and ended on April 2 of the same year. The director handled the cinematography himself, while Jeaw Nyee Tan of “Colosseum” fame handled the costume design department. Additional filming took place in San Francisco, the cultural and financial center of the state of California. The Fisherman’s Wharf area is a popular tourist destination, as it includes attractions such as Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, the Mechanical Museum, and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
