Kai Jin’s Superpowers in Fistful of Vengeance, Explained

-

Netflix’s “Fistful of Vengeance” follows Kai, the last Wu Assassin, and his friends on a frenetic adventure where they must avoid the destruction of the world as we know it. What begins as a hunt for the killer soon becomes much more complicated when mystical beings and ancient powers come into play. It all seems tied to the mysterious powers Kai himself channels, often to devastating effect. Unlike the loud sounds and disturbing explosions that most attacks have, Kai also has an interesting method of channeling his significant powers. If you’re wondering what Kai Jin’s superpowers are and what he can do with them, we’ve got you covered!

Kai Jin’s Superpowers Explained

Since the film opens right in the middle of the action, the origins of Kai’s powers are explained too briefly. To better understand our hero’s super abilities, we should take a look at “Wu Assassins”, the Netflix series that precedes the movie. According to the show, Kai receives the powers of a thousand dead monks, all of whom simultaneously gave their lives to create the awesome powers that Kai now absorbs.

Interestingly, the specific monk that Kai is channeling is apparently the last (1000th) monk who gave his life. Thus, as the channeler of the 1000th monk, Kai becomes the “last” Wu Assassin. According to the story, the powers he has are therefore akin to the combined powers of the thousand monks. This includes his ability to focus and manipulate energy which he can use to counter enemies.

Kai’s powers include superhuman strength, speed, and durability. All of this is evident in the film as our hero takes on wave after wave of increasingly powerful opponents. He also seems to be able to heal himself quickly, which is hinted at a few times when Kai recovers quickly after being injured. Finally, since he’s able to overpower the mystical Pan Gu at the film’s climax, it seems like Kai’s powers are strong enough to match powerful and ancient entities.

Thus, Kai Jin has a wide array of superpowers that he is imbued with as part of his role as the Wu Assassin. His powers are apparently even stronger as he is the last of the Wu Assassins. Since “Fistful of Vengeance” is all about the physical fight sequences, Kai’s special forces essentially remain a backup that he only uses when the odds against them get too great.

This, again, is clear in the film’s climax, where Kai fights one enemy after another, barely using any noticeable signs of his powers. It is only when confronted by Pan Gu and finds himself falling into a portal with the mystical being that Kai uses his powers. With a few quick moves, he causes a deafening explosion that propels Pan Gu into the dark depths of the portal. Since Kai is still relatively new to his powers, there are likely more uses he’ll discover in the future. Finally, besides the mystical powers of a thousand sacrificed monks, we have reason to believe that Kai Jin is also a highly accomplished leader in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
