Is Pike dead? Did Steven Ogg leave Snowpiercer?

-

When Layton and his allies part ways with the Snowpiercer in TNT’s post-apocalyptic series “Snowpiercer” on a pirate train to find Melanie, Pike teams up with Ruth to keep the resistance fires on the train. As someone who has fought tyranny in the Snowpiercer since the freeze, Pike turns on his brother-in-arms when he misunderstands Layton is trying to become another Wilford by imposing his lies and wishes on the train passengers.

Pike’s retaliation leads to serious consequences, which threaten his own life. Ever since he engaged in a deadly knife fight with Layton in the sixth episode of Season 3, viewers have to worry about the character’s fate and actor Steven Ogg’s commitment to the show. Well, here is everything you need to know about the same! FRONT SPOILERS.

Is Pike dead?

Yes, Pike is dead. When Wilford tries his best to avoid Layton’s return to the pirate train’s Snowpiercer, Pike helps Layton by sending a signal. Along with Ruth, Pike aids Layton and his allies for the welfare of the train passengers. However, Layton’s re-emergence as the leader and the flimsy story of New Eden he establishes with Asha’s help leads Pike to believe that Layton is just playing with the lives of the passengers. He asks Ruth to become the new leader and even tries to kill Layton to end his “authoritarian rule”.

Rather than trying to perceive Layton’s intentions, Pike misunderstands the new leader’s motives and plans. Although Layton tries to explain his point, Pike insists on having a knife fight after rejecting Layton’s suggestion to discuss the matter. Following “Ivan’s old way” of conflict resolution, two of them engage in a vigorous fight. Pike tries his best to overpower Layton but gets stabbed and killed at the end of the fight by Layton. According to lore, Layton washes Pike’s body for the Tailies to honor as one of their best.

Even though Pike is correct that Asha’s New Eden story is a lie, he doesn’t understand that the lie is designed for the potential prosperity of the Snowpiercer passengers. His misconception that Layton is no better than Wilford at abuse of power leads him to attack Layton, which in turn results in his own death. Pike rejects the opportunity to chat with Layton, brother to brother, and sets the stage for his own death. As Ogg’s character dies in stunning fashion, fans of the show have to worry about whether the actor is leaving the thriller series. Well, let’s find out!

Did Steven Ogg leave Snowpiercer?

Since the first episode of “Snowpiercer,” Steven Ogg’s Pike has played a central role in the series’ narrative. As a determined Tailie, who wants an end to his fellow Tailies’ hardships, Pike persistently fights the Snowpiercer authorities. Even if Pike wastes his life on a misunderstanding, there is no doubt that he does so because he desires the betterment of his fellow travelers. Pike’s death marks the end of a worthy fight he puts forward to overcome the class struggle among the remnants of humanity.

Although TNT or Steven Ogg have yet to release an official statement regarding the “Snowpiercer” actor’s departure, Pike’s death strongly signals that Ogg’s performance on the show is over. Unless it’s for possible flashback scenes, potentially as guest stars, we may not see Steven Ogg on the show in a regular or recurring capacity. With Pike’s character arc over with his death, TNT or Ogg could announce the actor’s exit from the show in the coming days.
