What is 1932 about and when will it be released?
The “Yellowstone” universe was born when Taylor Sheridan and John Linson launched the Western drama series in 2018, with actor Kevin Costner leading the cast. It follows Dutton family patriarch John Dutton and his children as they fight to protect their family’s legacy and their ancestral Yellowstone ranch. The popularity of the series has skyrocketed over the years and it has become one of the most watched cable television shows. The series became a franchise when it was announced that “Yellowstone” would be getting a spin-off series in the form of “1883”.
The prequel series follows the first generation of Duttons who travel from Texas to Montana and settle in Paradise Valley, where they found the Yellowstone Ranch. The series’ first season ends with the Duttons arriving in Montana and claiming the land that will become their home for generations to come. Thus, the series lays the foundation for the new spin-off “1932”.
“1932” will serve as a sequel to “1883” and a prequel to “Yellowstone”. The series was officially announced by Paramount+ in February 2022 with the second season of “1883”. The series is still in development and we do not have a confirmed release window for the series. Production on “1932” has yet to begin, and it could be a while before the series hits our screens. However, end of 2023 the release date of the first season of ‘1932’ seems likely.
Since the new show was recently announced and is in development, other details such as the cast and plot are scarce. However, it was reported that the series would be set during the era of Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Given the time frame of the show, it’s safe to assume we’ll see the adult versions of John Dutton Sr. and Spencer Dutton in 1932.
Creator Taylor Sheridan spoke about the new series and gave some details in a statement. “I had built this story where the Dutton family came from, and with 1932 I chose that time to go back because you see the children we met in 1883 trying to raise another generation of Duttons . back when the Wild West was becoming a playground for the Eastern elite,” Sheridan said.
Another spin-off set in the present day focusing on Ranch 6666 is also in development. Additionally, ‘Yellowstone’ has been renewed for a fifth season and new episodes of ‘1883’ are also on the way. Therefore, “1932” marks the fourth series set in the “Yellowstone” universe and gives fans of the franchise a lot to look forward to.
