Daryl Dixon is one of the most influential figures among the survivors of AMC’s post-apocalyptic series “The Walking Dead.” During the apocalypse, Daryl becomes a specialist hunter and a steadfast killer of walkers. Does Daryl die?
Since the apocalypse, Daryl has faced death many times. From Governor to Saviors, Whisperers to Reapers, Daryl always manages to triumph as he battles deadly foes one after another. As the de facto commander of the Alexandrians upon Rick’s presumed death, Daryl is a symbol of hope and survival for his community. Still, Daryl’s fate isn’t secure enough for fans to worry about his potential death. As the series progresses towards its conclusion, one can’t be blamed for worrying if the renamed show will end with the death of one of the main protagonists’ life.
However, when it comes to “The Walking Dead” franchise/universe, we may not see Daryl’s death in the show’s eleventh and final season. As the flagship series draws to a close, AMC had already announced an untitled spin-off series focusing on Daryl and Carol, indicating that Daryl will most likely survive the events of the eleventh season storyline alive. The spin-off series’ narrative is set to begin in the future during the events of the eleventh season and will follow the complex and intertwined lives of Daryl and Carol.
The creation of the spin-off series most likely settles concerns about Daryl’s fate. Since the character is not part of the comic book series the series is based on, “The Walking Dead” showrunner and spinoff series co-creator Angela Kang have full authority to determine the character’s fate. . Thus, we can expect to see the character survive the events of the series finale to return in the spinoff series. A narrative that focuses solely on Daryl, Carol, and their relationship will certainly do justice to Daryl’s scope and importance as a character.
Even though Daryl may remain alive at the end of the series, his road to the events of the Season 11 finale may not be without challenges. His decision to join the Commonwealth Army and its repercussions on Hilltop and Maggie may not make his life any easier. His loyalties, priorities, and principles may come to a crossroads as he dons the uniform of the Commonwealth Army to potentially fight Maggie and her community at the top of the hill. It is also possible that he abandons his army to join Maggie in order to resist the vicious intentions of the Commonwealth. Either way, Daryl will face strong opposition, as always.
Daryl’s triumph over death is also inevitable for the safety and security of Judith and Rick Grimes Jr. Since Pamela and the Commonwealth should show the Alexandrians their true selves sooner rather than later, Daryl must be alive for his family and the survival of Alexandria. Daryl’s unresolved relationship with Leah and the possibility of their reunion also show that the character may be far from dead. From then on, in the rest of the episodes of the series, we can expect to see Daryl choose between Maggie and the Commonwealth and her potential reunion with her ex-lover.
